Project Detail

In and out in 8 weeks

Fortis Vision, the principal contractor, was tasked by Unite, (the UK’s largest student accommodation provider) to design and install a radical refurbishment scheme for the Headingley-based James Baillee Park in Leeds.

This comprised over 350 varying-layout bedrooms, kitchens, and communal areas and it required exacting planning in order to comply with HMO and Building Regulations Part F.

Rooms had to be stripped back to their original shells. The campus was still occupied. There was only 8 weeks to do it … and the England versus Australia (the Ashes) cricket match was going on just up the road.

Fortis Vision needed a company that could be relied upon to deliver all the electrical, mechanical and plumbing Services to the highest specification within this challenging timeframe. So, they called AJS Electrics.

We wasted no time in rewiring 54 kitchens, and completing electrical alterations to 275 bedrooms, including the installation of energy efficient heating systems and USB socket outlets.

As part of the complex ventilation upgrade requirements, we also replaced the 54 existing ventilation systems with energy efficient Vent Axia MVHR units & extraction hoods.

As usual, we delivered on time, on budget, enabling Fortis Vision to hand over to Unite 3 days early, and make possible early check-ins for students.
